Bend Without Breaking Athletic Therapy
Kevin is a Certified Athletic Therapist with Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland and the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association, and owner of Bend Without Breaking Athletic Therapy, providing virtual sports injury rehabilitation throughout Ireland. After nearly a decade of clinical and on-field experience working directly with baseball teams and players, Kevin brings his experience in helping baseball players understand and recover from their injuries to the members of Baseball Ireland.
While having always played baseball and softball throughout his life, Kevin began his career in baseball with a student internship with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he was present for every home game throughout the 2016 season, working alongside the medical staff in the team’s training room. This experience gave him firsthand insight into assessing and managing baseball players, and showed him the realities of keeping players healthy throughout a full season. As part of Baseball Canada’s Junior National Program, Kevin was responsible for the health and well-being of the country’s top young players during training camps and international tournaments, assessing injuries, managing rehabilitation, and helping players return to competition. This experience also led to Kevin assisting Softball Canada’s Women’s National Fast Pitch team for two camps.
As a Certified Athletic Therapist in Canada, Kevin has worked clinically with baseball and softball players of all ages and levels, from youth and recreational athletes to competitive players, to assess injuries, develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans, and help them return to the field. He has also provided field coverage and coordinated injury management for large multi-day events involving more than 100 young athletes.
Since relocating to Ireland, Kevin is looking to bring his experience and expertise in managing baseball players to the members of Baseball Ireland through online appointments aimed at assessing injuries and guiding recovery from injuries and pain. Kevin can help the membership with:
• Injury assessment and guidance
• Individualized rehabilitation following injury
• Shoulder, elbow, and throwing-related pain and injuries
• Return-to-throw and return-to-play considerations
• Injury prevention and education
• Guidance for players, parents, and coaches
Through his experience, Kevin understands the unique demands baseball players face, how those demands contribute to injury, and why rehabilitation needs to prepare players specifically for baseball. Recovery isn’t simply about getting out of pain; it’s about rebuilding the capacity to tolerate the demands that caused the problem in the first place. For a baseball player, that means rehabilitation should ultimately prepare them for the throwing, hitting, running, and workload demands they need to handle on the field. Kevin combines evidence-informed practice, individualized care, and progressive exercise to help players understand their injury and build that capacity.
